Wow! This is an incredible find. A complete 3-car set of Lionel's pre-war
Union Pacific M10000 Union Pacific streamlined passenger set. This set includes
a 752E Diesel engine unit, a 753 coach car and a 754 observation car. These sets
were sold originally in both three and four car versions. The 4-car version had
an additional 753 coach car.
This set includes everything that was needed to set up a train layout:
- 3-car train set (as listed above) with original boxes
- 2-illuminated interior vestibules, one stays with a car and goes into its
box, the other has its own original box
- Lionel type "B" Multivolt transformer with original box (box not
shown, missing top flaps)
- 16-sections of O-72 curved O-gauge track
- 4-sections of 14-1/2" O-gauge straight track
- Pre-war style lever type track lock-on for hooking up wires to the track
- 20 track clips to keep the track sections joined
- Lionel #95 Controlling Rheostat with original box
- Instruction sheet for No. 751E set dated 10-34
- Instruction booklet " How To Build a Model Railroad" dated
10-38
This set comes in a custom made wooden box which was probably made by the
original owner. Interestingly, there are a few pages of "The Detroit
Times" newspaper lining the bottom of the box which are dated Mon.,
December 17, 1956.
This set runs and operates fine. Everything is original and came with
his set when it was new, it has not been pieced together. We would recommend not
to use the transformer unless you replace the power cord as it is a bit brittle.
We did not replace it because we wanted to keep the originality. We did
not try to unwind the cord from around the transformer but we did plug it in and
test it to make sure it worked properly. It is interesting to read the
instructions as this set was from a time when house current electricity was not
standard 110 volts, so it explains how to hook up the set using "dry
cell" batteries and 220 volt current.
We are grading the overall set as excellent minus condition. The engine and
cars have some minor scratches and playwear, there is no damage, dents, rust or
defects. The instruction sheet and booklet are in fair to good condition, very
readable, just be gentle (hey, it's 75+ years old). The original boxes are in
good condition. On one car box, the tape that holds the side seam together is
split, but the box is solid.
