Club members and their families attended the Marion Union Station Tour on Saturday July 20, 2002. The weather was so great that we didn't meet in the room that we had rented. Instead, we moved the tables and chairs outside to the north (shady) side of the depot where we could see the trains passing from all four directions and there were a bunch of trains! It seemed that we could reach out and touch them as they passed with friendly engineers waving from the cab windows at times. The club furnished a delicious and plentiful lunch of Kentucky Fried Chicken with all the sides which we enjoyed in the shade as trains passed and we conversed with fellow club members and their their families. After lunch a Union Station club member gave us an unscheduled guided tour of the station and switch tower which was very interesting and appreciated. The Marion Union Station Association has done a remarkable job in restoring this historic landmark and it is interesting to compare "before" photos with the progress to date. Thanks to Buckeye Division club member Fred Dorsten, for arranging this event for the club!
Below are some pictures of passing trains and the HO scale layout that is operated by the NMRA Club at the station.
