Description

Lionel's 75 years of model railroading is captured in this magnificent set, the 75th Anniversary Special. Throughout every year of the 1900's, Lionel created fun, excitement and hapiness for millions of young engineers, and that history is recreated on the sides of each car.

The big, U36B diesel engine, bearing the 75th Anniversary emblem, pulls this 9-unit set. The markings show off, in beautiful color, the Lionel history starting with the founder, Joshua Lionel Cowen. Also features are some of the most popular engines and accessories, breakthrough engineering developments, memorable catalog covers and Lionel company signatures used throughout the years. Everyone will find some association of their youth pictures on the train.

A most unique commemorative train set...the Lionel 75th Anniversary Special includes the U36B engine with operating headlight, three 9700 series box cars, three reefers, hopper and lighted caboose. Every car is from the "top" of the Lionel line.

This set is new and has not been run on the track. We bench tested the engine to make sure that it runs properly. Includes the original instructions for the engine and other paperwork. The box lid shows a good bit of shelf wear and age. Two of the corners are taped and there is some writing on the front. The box bottom is in like new condition. One of the pictures shown is of the 1975 catalog 2-page spread showing this set. (the catalog is not included in the set and is for illustration only)
