Description

Wow, here is a super great set in olive green that consists of the #8 electric locomotive, #337 Coach Car and #338 Observation Car, all with original boxes. The #8 has been re-wheeled and is in excellent condition. As is typical, the original wheels disintegrated due to poor quality metal alloy and castings that were used at the time. The paint is all original. The engine runs great and features a manual E-unit control for forward & reverse operation. Other features are brass windows, identification plates, railings and trim. Operating headlights on both ends. The passenger cars #337 and #338 are all original and are in Excellent+ condition. They feature illuminated interiors and opening doors. Operates on Std. Gauge track.

The original boxes are in excellent condition. The #8 box an original mailing label from Lionel at 1460 Chestnut Ave. Hillside 5, New Jersey. showing that it was sent to Ohringer Home Furn. Co. in Queensburg, PA.  There is also a postage sticker dated "Dec 9'52" with .48? postage showing mailed from Irvington N.J. There are no other markings visible on the engine box. The box stamp shows it was manufactured by the Bogota Corr. & Fibre Box Corp. We have a feeling that this box was a later box (1950's), not the original box from the 1920's.

The passenger car boxes are the originals from the 1920's. They are in good condition and are marked with the car number and color. These boxes have stamps that show they were manufactured by the Robert Gair Co.

We are including the set box that these came to us in. It is marked 353T on the inside of the top part and 353B in the inside of the bottom part. Both the top and bottom boxes have had paper type masking tape applied over the years as it was taped closed for storage and being moved around. We are not sure that these were the original components but they fit nicely. The box is solid but the tape has obscured and also damaged some of the original markings and labels on the box.

This is a super set for the prewar Std. Gauge collector!
