Lionel 6-18034 Santa Fe 2-8-2 Mikado Steam Locomotive & Tender with RailSounds II
|
The Santa Fe Railroad was one of the early links in the transcontinental railroad system. The Santa Fe Railway is the major rail connection for much of the mid-west, including Chicago and Kansas City, the gulf port cities in Texas and Louisiana, most of the southern grain belt and the California coast including Los Angeles and San Francisco. Most of the Santa Fe's routes routes have survived a century of transportation.
The 2-8-2 wheel arrangement for a steam locomotive earned its nickname 'Mikado" from an early export shipment of this classification of steam locomotive to Japan. The design worked well on steam locomotives used to haul freight. The Santa Fe purchased over 300 of these "workhorses" between 1903 and 1945. Use this locomotive on your layout the way the Santa Fe did, pulling everything from local and branchline freight trains to double-headed through freights.
This fantastically detailed model features Steam RailSounds? II which digitally re-creates the "chug" of a steam locomotive, the shrill blast of the steam whistle, the clanging of the bell and the hissing release of steam when the locomotive comes to rest. The sound volume is adjustable too.
